The Science Museum is free to visit and located in a beautiful part of London. There are interactive exhibits, including flight simulators and virtual experiments. The museum is also home to the Apollo 10 command module, Charles Babbage’s drawings and sketches, the first steam locomotive and many more iconic objects. Wonderlab is full of hands-on exhibits for kids aged 7-14 and the IMAX theatre is not to be missed!
Hyde Park and lots of restaurants are in easy walking distance for when you’re finished exploring. Kensington also has plenty of fantastic family hotels, or If you don’t want to stay in the city a country house outside London is a great choice, especially if you choose one near a town with good train links.
Tate Modern
The Tate Modern might not seem like the ideal place to spend an afternoon with kids, but it’s a great way to introduce the whole family to modern and contemporary art and the museum has lots of kid friendly activities on offer.
Like the Science Museum , entry is free making it a budget friendly option. It’s worth doing some research beforehand as there are often workshops and interactive sessions running to give kids a real hands-on introduction to art.
The Turbine Hall is definitely worth a visit as it often features huge installations.
Hyde Park
Hyde Park is full of family friendly adventures. The Princess Diana Memorial Playground is great for younger kids to let off some steam. If it’s a nice day renting pedalos or rowing boars on the Serpentine Lake is fantastic fun. There’s also a lakeside restaurant for refreshments afterwards. It’s a great spot for escaping the hustle and bustle of the busier areas. If you’re visiting near Christmas, Winter Wonderland is definitely worth a visit too!
Tower Bridge and The Tower of London
Tower Bridge is definitely one of London’s most iconic attractions. Kids love the high walkways which give incredible views of London and the Thames and the interactive exhibits are educational and fun!
The Tower of London is a brilliant mix of fun, mystery and history. How often do you get the opportunity to take a tour led by a Beefeater and see the Crown Jewels!
More Family Friendly London Attractions
London is a theatre lovers dream and a fantastic city for a theatre break. Visitors can head to the West End for a Musical, the Royal Albert Hall for a concert or the Shakespeare’s Globe for a play.
The London Eye offers incredible views of the skyline. Kids will love trying to spot Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and St Paul’s Cathedral. It’s quite pricy but takes about 30 minutes to do a full loop.
Try a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory afternoon tea at 1 Aldwych or a Mad Hatter Afternoon Tea at the Sanderson. Both are unforgettable experience sure to delight the whole family.
