So, what are the best things you can do with your kids when the weather isn’t ideal for getting out of the house?
Have A Craft Day
The best thing about craft days is anything goes. You can use anything and everything to make some craft-related items. You don’t need specific supplies. Whether you have a fully stocked craft tub with pens, paper, scissors, crafting beads, glue, paper, tissue paper, card foil, string, etc, or you round up items from around the house, i.e. dried foodstuffs, sponges to paint with, use body parts etc., you can still have heaps of fun getting the kids to use their imagination.
Water Fun
Now, the idea of a rainy day indoors is to escape the wet weather outdoors, but indoor water fun is perfect for kids of all ages. From having a little paddling pool set up in the kitchen, for example, on a hard floor for younger kids, to having them play in the sink or the bath with their toys, water fun can be a great way to pass the time and keep kids occupied.
Act It Out
Get your kids to go and pick some weird and wonderful outfits and put together a show for you. It can be anything their imagination dreams up or recreate their favourite show or video game. It’s entirely up to them, but you can encourage them to practise their scenes and then put on a show for you all while you do what you need to do or do nothing at all.
Cook
Get in the kitchen and get the kids involved while you make some yummy goodies or do some meal prep with them. Getting them involved in your kitchen activities won’t be smooth going, most likely, but that’s part of the fun. Embrace the chaos, be prepared for things to go awry, and teach them some valuable kitchen and cooking skills, all while allowing them to have fun and explore safely under your guidance.
Create an Obstacle Course
Of course, you don’t want your kids flinging themselves down the stairs, but creating a mini obstacle course using cushions and pillows can be fun and allow them to do something they most likely have never done indoors before, or at least not with permission. Use whatever you have around the house to create obstacles or even games they can play; you can turn your home into something resembling Gladiators if you wish! But get them involved in making the course, let them loose and safely, and watch them have fun.
Entertaining the kids when it’s wet outside can be challenging, especially especially if you have many hours to fill. But these tips can give you some ideas on what you can do the next time you’re stuck at home due to bad weather.
