We are desperate for storage in our house, which oddly has hardly any built in storage so I NEED these great tips in this guest post.
Losing space in your home can be stressful, your belongings end up crammed in to cupboards and piled up on the floor because you simply have nowhere else to put them. As a result it feels like you spend half your life looking for your keys and wallet before you can leave the house.
Perhaps you have downsized, moved in with a partner, had children or simply been on a mega shopping spree. Any of which can make the space you once had, quickly shrink until there is barely any room left to move.
But, fear not because there are always ways to find more storage in your home, even when you think you have already done everything you can.
Start by having a major clear out and getting rid of everything you don’t really need – throw rubbish in the bin, donate to charity and sell what you can. You can even remove a large amount that you want to keep, but don’t want right now, by putting it into a storage unit such as ReadySteadyStorage.
Once you have done that it is time to create extra storage within your home:
Hidden jewellery storage
Ladies, you know that finding somewhere to store your jewellery can prove difficult. Usually you just end up with everything piled up and therefore tangled up in a box – so you never wear it again.
That is why this art piece is perfect – you can store all your jewellery neatly without taking up any extra space, as it is hidden behind a painting on the wall, that you have either purchased or done yourself.
Vacuum pack bags
Clothes, spare towels and bedding – all take up a lot of room! But, if you put them in vacuum pack bags you can condense it all down so, it not only takes up less space, but can also be stored away neatly.
Hanging storage
Hanging storage is perfect for making use of wasted vertical space, rather than your much needed floor space. This type of storage can be placed either on walls or on the back of doors – including cupboard doors. See, you probably hadn’t thought of using the back of cupboard doors but knowing this will suddenly provide you with plenty of storage opportunities.
Clear stacker boxes
Again, stacker boxes take up your wall space rather than the floor. If you opt for clear ones you can easily see what is in each one, so you don’t have to spend time taking it all out, when you are looking for something important.
Magnetic strips
Magnetic strips and sheets are ideal for creating storage in all the nooks and crannies around your house. These could be used in the kitchen for knives or under a self to attach clear jars – for herbs and spices, perhaps. This could also be used in the bathroom for the likes of nail clippers and tweezers or in the kid’s playroom for toys. This can be as creative as you wish – why not stick a magnet to the back of reclaimed wood for a rustic feel.
Once you are done you will be surprised to see how much space was hidden within your home!
