I’m not the best with home decor, we once painted our bedroom bright orange, and I currently have curtains in the living room that completely clash with everything else! I’m also a bit bad for buying new things without trying to fix or refresh the old. This guest post is full of top tips for making the most out of your home and furnishings, which I’m definitely going to try going forward.
The ambience of your home has a huge impact on how you think and feel. It is important to provide your family and yourself with as nice a home as possible. Everyone needs a space they feel comfortable in, somewhere to relax and be themselves.
For most families, the living room is a very important space. It the one place where everyone spends time together reading, browsing the web, watching TV and playing games. Usually, it is also where you entertain friends and family. Keeping this room looking fresh and welcoming is important.
Update your artwork and paintings regularly
A good way to freshen up the look of your living room is to regularly renew the paintings or prints you hang on the walls. You can easily buy some lovely panoramic photo prints and use those to decorate your home. It is also possible to send your own photographs away to a print firm and have them turned into unique prints to be used to decorate your living room.
We have used a few wall decals in the bedrooms and found them to be a fast and easy way to redecorate a room. They are easily available online and there are plenty available that could work really well for a living room.
Update the soft furnishings
Buying some new throws, rugs and cushion covers is a really fast way to update the look of your living room. If you like crafts you could potentially buy plain items and use fabric paints, iron-on photo transfers or embroidery to create your own new soft furnishing items.
Re-cover your sofa and chairs
If your sofa is comfortable, but starting to look a bit dated buying new covers is a lot cheaper than going out and buying a new suite. It is not hard to buy new covers, especially if you have bought one of the more popular brands. For example, it is really easy to find replacement covers for most IKEA sofas.
If you have a dining area in your living room updating the upholstery on your chairs is a really easy job that most people can tackle. You can learn how to do it by watching this video. As you will see it is not a big job. You could potentially make a table runner and maybe some new mats to complete the transformation.
Buy some new window coverings
Updating your curtains or blinds is also a great way to freshen things up a bit. You can tackle this task in two ways. The first is to go out and buy something new, but this can be expensive to do. If money is tight, a better approach is to update what you already own. Adjusting the length of your existing curtains, edging them with a new fabric or making new tiebacks can be all you need to do.
Paint your furniture
If your furniture is looking a little old-fashioned, you can easily update it. Most wooden items can be rubbed down and re-stained in the latest colours, or you could simply paint them a different colour.
