Travelling with children can definitely be tricky. Sometimes the thought of packing and travelling with 4 children puts me off going anywhere, although I know it’s always worth it when we make the effort. This post shares some top tips for making travelling a little bit easier.
Holidays may be relaxing but travelling with children can often be a little stressful and may require some style of military planning, we’ve all been there! If you’re planning on taking the family away over the next half term break, then here are some tips to help make your travelling experience as stress free as possible!
Don’t leave things until the last minute
This is where a checklist can come in useful, write down everything you need to arrange before you go, including the little things such as charging devices, switching
We all think we have plenty of time to sort things out for our holiday, but time passes us by a little too quickly. Especially on the count down to a holiday, so planning will really help here. Even with the little things such as checking in early, printing boarding passes, getting documents and passports together can really help. Having a checklist put together that you can work your way through
Getting as much done as you can as early as possible makes a big difference to starting your holiday in a great way.
Travel to the airport the night before
If you have a early morning flight booked, it can sometimes be a stressful affair trying to get everyone up and out of the house on time, especially if you have to leave during the night. There’s also then the added stress of trying to find the right carpark at 5am in the morning, oh the fun and games. If you have younger children, then it might be a good option to stay in a hotel near to the airport the night before. If you’re travelling from Heathrow, then hotels such as the Heathrow Terminal 5 hotel are great options as they’re so close to the terminal, about a 5 minute ride – and you can use the pods as your mode of transport!
Keep them entertained
Keeping children entertained throughout the wait at the airport and the flight can be quite the task, especially if they become a little restless. Before you board take a walk around the airport (stay close to the boarding gates if possible) to try and get some energy out before the flight. Also making games of spotting the planes and runways is a great way to occupy their attention whilst waiting to board. Sky Skanner has some put together some tips on keeping children happy on flights including packing some plane bags for them to open once boarded and in the air. When it comes to technology, making sure it’s fully charged and good to go is a big help, and looking at things you can download through Netflix and other apps can help to keep children entertained on the flight, during your holiday and return flight!
