Kids like to learn, but, you have to make it fun. You need to engage them on as many levels as possible. The more ways you find to stimulate their minds the more likely they are to remember what you have taught them. One interesting approach I have not seen talked about anywhere else is putting your kids in clothing that has some sort of educational theme or message.
If you take a look at review sites such as feefo you will soon realize that there are hundreds of firms out there selling children´s clothing. Each one takes a different approach. They want to stand out from the crowd. One way to do this is to sell clothing that features slogans and logos on them.
Most children´s clothing retailers simply tap into popular shows or movies and theme their clothes using images from them. However, as you will see, some are thinking outside the box and producing fun clothing that encourages children to learn and makes it easier for them to do so. Here are a few examples of what I am talking about here.
Alphabet- themed clothing
One thing you see a lot of is ABC themed clothing. Naturally, these items are mostly designed for very small children to wear. If you are teaching your child their first few letters these items of clothing can help to reinforce your efforts. They are colorful and fun.
Counting themed clothes
Counting gloves are a great idea for a child who is just starting to learn their numbers. They are simply gloves with the numbers 1 to 10 on each finger. If they are not available where you live, you can always knit your child a pair or use fabric pens to make them.
Science-themed t-shirts
As a bit of a science nerd, I have a soft spot for science-themed t-shirts. Some, like The Big Bang Theory BaZnGa T-shirt I recently saw, is fun as well as potentially educational. Others like the periodic table tees you see around a lot are not really funny, but they look great and are a good way to remind kids of what they are learning in their science class.
Foreign language fun
If your children are learning Spanish or French buying them slogan t-shirts that feature funny phrases in those languages can help. Usually, your child will take the time to learn what the phrase means so they can explain it to their friends. Doing this can help them to better understand how certain verbs are conjugated and teach them new vocabulary.
Create your own educationally themed t-shirts
If you found the above interesting and would like to create clever and unique t-shirts and other items of clothing of your own it is really easy to do so. You just need a good graphics program like GIMP, which is free.
Using this software, you, or your kids, can create unique learning themed images. Once you are happy you just need to print them out onto iron-on transfer paper. Or, better still pay your local print shop to do it for you. Often, this actually works out cheaper and produces better results. Then you just have to iron the transfer to the clothing you have chosen to transform. This short video takes you through the entire process.
A potential side business opportunity
If you like doing it and your kid´s friends admire the fun clothes you make for your children you could even turn this into a small business. It is now really easy to sell customized T-shirts using places like Amazon Merch.
