There’s something about this time of year that makes me start to dream of a family holiday. We went away in June this year which was lovely, but does make the summer seem quite long.
I have a big birthday at the end of next year and am hoping to take the kids on an extra special holiday. One thought is going back to Florida as I have a soft spot for Disney World, another is to go to California as we haven’t been since having children and at the top of the list is Canada as we’ve never been and I would love to go.
I’ve been researching train tours and trying to find a flight to Toronto and then onto Vancouver, but you can imagine how much that costs for a family of 6. Then the question is when to go. If we go in April we don’t have to pay for Charlie as he won’t be 2, and might be able to squeeze in some last minute skiing, but I love the idea of warmer weather and being able to take full advantage of all the outdoor activities in summer.
My dream is to stay in a lakeside cabin, take a trip ride through the Rockies, maybe take advantage of a couple of summer festivals, go shopping in Toronto and then head to Whistler to either ski or try out the summer activities. I can’t believe how much there is on offer, from zip lining to bear viewing and bobsleigh tours. It sounds completely incredible and perfect for my crazy kids. I think I’ve talked myself out of Disney World and California just writing this!
I’m not a huge fan of the sun or the beach. Lakes and National Parks are much more my thing and Canada definitely has plenty of those for me. I’m a already dreaming of lakeside lodges, forest cabins, hotels in the Rockies and Niagara Falls. I’m not sure I can wait till next summer!
If you’ve visited Canada and have any tips or recommendations for me I’d love to hear them. We love science museums, which I know Canada has a few of and generally anything outdoors and sporty is a big hit with my children. I know little Charlie would love the wildlife especially if we made it to Manitoba to see a Polar Bear or go whale watching ( a dream of mine ). I’d consider taking a cruise as part of the holiday to, especially if we could get to Glacier Bay National Park as it looks incredible!
My big reservation is that Charlie will only be two and I wonder if a big travelling holiday would be too much for him, but I think he would love the outdoor, clean air, active lifestyle Canada offers so maybe I don’t need to worry.
I really, really want to take my girls to Canada as that was where Poppy was born and she has dual nationality. Again it’s expensive for a family of five. It’s an amazing country for bough and a fantastic place to visit in all seasons. Hope we both get there soon xx
