Paris is one of the most visited cities on the planet. Over 40 million people visit the French capital every year, taking in the likes of the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe. The number of world-class events taking place also makes it a destination you shouldn’t miss out on.
There’s nowhere quite like Paris and there are certain times of the year when it becomes an even better place to visit, with the city really coming alive. This year that’s certainly the case, and alongside the usual sightseeing and hop on hop off Paris bus tours, there are a host of events that will live long in the memory. So, which should you visit?
Paris Fashion Week
Hosted twice per year, Paris Fashion Week is one of the big five, alongside Milan, New York, London, and Tokyo, and it is a bucket list for many fashionistas. Taking place between 18 June and 23 June for Autumn/Winter collections, the whole city gets transformed with dozens of runway shows, presentations and plenty of parties.
Olympic Games
The Olympics returns to Paris this year, taking place over two weeks in late July into early August. It’s the third time the city will have hosted the games, a record alongside London, and it’s all set to be a magical one.
For the first time, the Opening Ceremony won’t take place in the Olympic Stadium, but instead will see a floatilla travel down the River Seine, making it an opening to a festival like no other.
Paris Jazz Festival
The Jazz Festival takes place in the Parc Floral de Paris each year, with free open-air concerts. Sitting in the sunshine, with the lush greenery around and music filling the air, is what Paris is all about, providing a unique vibe for every music lover.
As well as concerts, there are workshops and jam sessions to get involved in, and it’s always worth looking out for if you are in the city.
Nuit Blanche
Nuit Blanche, which translates as White Night, returns in early June and enables people to see Paris in an entirely different way. The monuments and streets of Paris will be transformed from dusk until dawn with contemporary art installed.
Light projections, interactive artworks and various performances can be witnessed across the city and it’s the perfect time to visit, getting to see the French capital in this very special way.
Paris Photo
Finally, Paris Photo, the international photography fair takes place between November 7 and 10 this year at the Grand Palais. It’s one of the most prestigious photography festivals in the world and is a must for any photography enthusiast. There are some fantastic exhibitions, workshops, talks and more, as well as a brilliant atmosphere around the city too.
There are always some really spectacular displays, while it’s also a great place to connect and meet like-minded people, sharing tips, skills and getting out in Paris to photograph the great city.
