I am always trying to declutter my house, but despite my best intentions it just never seems to happen, but I am determined to give my house a bit of a refresh and overhaul over the next month or so. We’ve been in our house since it was brand new five years ago so now everything is starting to feel a bit tired and old and in desperate need of some cheering up in time for summer. I’m at that point where I can’t invite anyone round as it just takes too much effort to make it tidy enough for guests.
I was thinking some lovely new furniture might be just the thing to smarten up the kitchen and dining area. We originally bought our dining table thinking it would last us forever, but with three children and lots of house guests it is starting to feel a bit small for us. We need either a bigger dining table or one that extends for when we have guests. I’d love to be able to fit lots of people around a table in our kitchen for a big meal with family or friends.
I know I really need to sort my house out this time, I look around at the mess and I can’t concentrate, I feel like I’d be so much more productive if I wasn’t always thinking about the clutter and my endless to do list. As well as a dining table we’re also in desperate need for storage, three children means a huge amount of clothes and toys, and it’s just impossible to keep them all contained neatly.
This article from Good Housekeeping has some great tips for decluttering. I especially love the one about only having three non book items on a shelf, I am very bad for jamming as much as possible onto shelves, with the result that they look VERY messy.
How do you keep your house tidy and uncluttered?

I keep it clean by being proactive. I also clean as I go, which saves me time at the end of the week (when I need it most). Thanks for sharing these tips.
