I have fond memories of playing with Barbie dolls when I was young. I had a huge house for them with working lights, it was something I played with for hours on end. I remember making up stories and making decorations for the walls. My own girls have a couple of Barbie dolls, but haven’t shown a huge interest as yet, although they do like her car!
As a female who is passionate about science and once had a career in the very male dominated world of IT I am a big believer in the fact that girls can do anything and should not be pigeon holed into gender specific roles. I hope my girls go up believing there are no boundaries to what they can achieve if they work hard enough. You might be wondering what any of the above has to do with Barbie? This YouTube video explains all.
Do you remember being a child and absolutely believing anything was possible? I remember hoping with all my heart I could go to Space Camp one day, believing if I wrote to NASA and worked hard enough in school, it might happen. Then a few years later I really thought I’d be a ground breaking virologist and find a cure for a deadly tropical disease. The video really took me back to those days, when anything was possible…..
I know these little girls believe they can be anything and hope that remains the case for a long time to come.
What were your hopes and dreams as a child? and what do you think of the video above?
