We’ve been loving the hot weather recently and making the most of the chance to eat ice creams and ice lollies. I’ve been a bit bad for buying shop bought varieties so far, but I did mean to make some of our own. These three recipes look like a great place to start.
Summer is here and it’s the perfect time to treat all your family. Homemade sweets and treats can be a great way to get your whole family involved in the long summer months. But don’t be fooled – these hot days don’t just mean treats for the kids. Grandparents could do with a pick me up or two as the heat continues to rise and that means family-friendly favourites that everyone is sure to love.
Fruit popsicles
A great way to get your family eating healthy whilst staying cool this summer is fruit popsicles. They look cool and taste great as well as being one of the easiest sweet treats to make.
Grab some fruit and get your kids to help so you can teach them about the importance of their 5 a day. Cut the fruit up into small chunks and put it in some popsicle moulds before adding fruit juice of your preference.
Place the moulds in the freezer and in a couple of hours you’ll have your family cool and refreshed whilst munching on some delicious and healthy fruit. This one is great for reviving tired grandparents too and when the summer heat proves too much, a cool refreshing snack can be just the thing they need to lift their spirits and have them bouncing through their McCarthy & Stone retirement home.
Ice-cream sandwiches
Another great treat to satisfy your sweet tooth and keep you cool is ice-cream sandwiches. All you’ll need to do is pick your favourite cookies and your favourite ice cream flavour; Place a big scoop of ice cream between two cookies and you’re ready to go!
If you make a few, leave them in the fridge and you can eat them the next day. The great thing about this treat is it can be easily tailored to take the preferences of fussy eaters into account but without lumbering you with lots of extra work.
Frozen grapes
This is a classic summer trick for when you need to cool things down and refresh yourself. Placing your grapes in the freezer for a few hours will give you a healthy kick for your sweet tooth whilst cooling you right down!
So remember, when your kids are under your feet and looking for some sweet relief, get the whole family involved and make some delicious summer treats that will please old and young alike!
