With the summer break here, you might be wondering what to do with the kids to keep them entertained, active and inspired before their new year at school begins. While there is plenty to see and do in London and other popular cities, getting out to the countryside is beneficial for both yours and your kids health and provides a lot more space to run around and have fun in.
Lincolnshire is an excellent place to spend a weekend or week holiday and can be reached from all major roads and railways, if you are thinking about where to take your family for a UK staycation, here are some favourite things to see and do in the Lincolnshire area;
Market Rasen Racecourse
Taking place on August 4th, the Market Rasen Racecourse will be holding a Family Fun Day Extravaganza for all to take part in. There will be plenty of family entertainment, dedicated children’s activities and even a visit from Duggee of children’s programme Hey Duggee. Kids can run riot on an inflatable obstacle course, enjoy getting their faces painted and try their hand at riding an imitation racehorse.
Natureland Seal Sanctuary, Skegness
Get up close to the adorable dogs of the sea at the Natureland Seal Sanctuary in Skegness. The centre is dedicated to rescuing sick, orphaned and injured seals and nursing them back to health before releasing the healthy and strong seals back into the wild. Seals aren’t the only critters to see at Natureland and you can visit penguins and meerkats and enjoy feeding the rabbits, sheep and guinea pig that reside in pets’ corner.
Tattershall Farm Park
Tattershall Farm Park has plenty of things for children to enjoy on a traditional day out at the farm. Get up close to a variety of cuddle creatures including ferrets, lambs, cows, donkeys and rabbits with a chance to meet some more exotic animals such as bearded dragons, snakes and chinchillas. There is both an indoor and outdoor play area for kids to burn off excess energy and a lovely cafe and gift shop to pick up some tasty farm made goods and gifts.
Normanby Hall Country Park
A spectacular Regency mansion found in North Lincolnshire, Normanby Hall Country Park is a heritage site and holds a variety of historic and cultural events during the year. On-site you’ll find a selection of family friendly activities and an expansive playground for kids to run around in. Over the summer, make sure to jump on the Normanby Land Train, lasting 15 minutes and costing only £1 a person, it’s a great way to take in the wonderful sights around the grounds without tiring out little legs.
Lincolnshire Wolds Railway, Ludborough
For kids young and old that love all things trains, the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway in Ludborough is a great place to watch trains go by while enjoying a picnic in lovely natural surroundings. Enjoy a ride on the historic steam train, wander down to the engine shed to take a glance at the inner workings of a train workshop or stop by for a friendly chat with the signal guard.
