Planning a family holiday when you’re pregnant can feel like you’re juggling flaming torches while riding a unicycle. For starters, you’re already trying to save money for this family holiday because it’s going to be pretty expensive, but it doesn’t end there either! While sure, there’s the excitement of the trip, the challenge of packing for the family, and the added considerations of keeping yourself and your growing baby comfortable and healthy. But don’t worry. Honestly, all it takes is a bit of planning, and you’ll be comfortable, not overload yourself, and you’ll still have a fabulous getaway. So here’s exactly what you need to know!
Comfort is Key
Chances are pretty high that you might be tempted to pack your pre-pregnancy holiday wardrobe, but comfort is your new best friend. During the nine months, you’re going to only want comfort, and you need that, too. So, ideally, you should opt for loose, breathable clothing that allows you to move freely and keeps you cool.
For example, you might want to look into maternity dresses that are midi and maxi length because they’ll flow- these can usually be worn during any time of the year. You might even want to take a look at stretchy leggings, and oversized tops are lifesavers. And don’t forget your maternity swimsuit if you’re heading to a sunny destination!
But what about shoes? Well, you know how it’s preached to be comfortable and wear comfortable shoes during holiday, well even more so when pregnant! Your feet might swell more than a helium balloon in the second and third trimesters, so pack comfy, supportive footwear. Ideally, you’re going to want to think of cushioned sandals or trainers rather than those killer heels – you can look glamorous while staying comfy!
Snacks, Snacks, and More Snacks
Pregnancy hunger is a beast that waits for no meal time. Seriously, it doesn’t matter if you’re on a plane, train, or automobile; having a stash of your favourite snacks will save you from the dreaded “hangry” phase. But don’t pack crisps or anything unhealthy like that. Actually, it’ll be for the best if you pack a mix of healthy options like nuts, dried fruits, and wholegrain crackers, along with a few treats, because you deserve them!
And don’t forget to stay hydrated. This might sound super obvious, but you should still try to bring a reusable water bottle and keep it topped up. Dehydration is the last thing you need while you’re growing a human and trying to keep up with family holiday shenanigans.
Don’t Forget About the Health Essentials
This one’s a no-brainer but easy to overlook in the chaos of packing. So, you’ll need to bring your prenatal vitamins and any other medications you might be taking. It’s best to just pack them in your hand luggage to avoid any panic if your checked bag decides to take its own little detour.
Having a small first aid kit with basics like plasters, antiseptic wipes, and paracetamol is also a good idea. You never know when you might need it, and it’s better to be safe than sorry.
