Having a big family comes with its perks but it also had downsides. When you’re moving house in particular, difficulties of moving so many personal belongings become apparent. We hope that we will have enough time to move everything but we soon realize this is pure fantasy. Consider your personal experiences, have you ever met someone who had a smooth-sailing moving day? The chances of that are very low, especially when you have more than one or two truck-fulls of stuff. But that doesn’t mean you should give up and enjoy the ride into chaos. No, you can do these things to try and avoid having a stressful moving experience.
Moving day is done in days
It would normally go without saying but because so many people rely on moving companies to do all the packing, packaging, lifting and moving, it has to be reminded. You should never take moving day services for granted. Sometimes they won’t turn up with the right amount of people. Someone might be injured and not able to lift. Or the movers will just work too slowly. To speed things along, your moving day should be divided into days. Mark out a few days in your week when you will do a little bit of packing. The first things to pack away are the items you rarely use or don’t need as many of, such as the cutlery, vases, photos, mirrors, children’s toys, summer clothing and jewelry. Day by day, your items will reduce in number around the house. Eventually, you’ll only be left with the large items which the movers will handle.
Using an island
The trouble with moving so much stuff is, you either end up paying a lot more than usual with the moving company or you end up leaving something behind in the rush. To avoid both of these things, consider using a storage unit. Here you can store all sorts of items, and they will be ready to be picked up when you need them. This also gives you more time as the family moving into your home will be inadvertently pushing you out as they bring their stuff too. It’s all a bit of a moving caterpillar, one family out another in. The storage unit service is fully serviced with security cameras, alarms and workers on-site to make sure nothing is stolen. Customers will also need to bring their IDs to the front desk in order to be given access to their units so no one can just waltz in and somehow get access to your things.
Night and day
Night and day
Who says you can only move during the day? It’s the most common way but if you have a lot of things, the night should become your friend. Many moving companies are happy to provide you with their services during the night so feel free to ask those you intend to hire. However, you should also try to make two parties, one that moves things during the day and then another that moves the remaining things at night.
No mountain is too tall to climb, even if it’s a million boxes worth of your things. Moving such a large family requires planning and consistency.
